REGIONAL JET COCKPIT
The simulator that launched SimSamurai is back. After a decade of shelving this design in favor of the larger Airliner X we’ve decided to release an updated and improved version. We’ve taken all of the great features that were morphed and expanded into the Airliner X and have now retrofit those same improvements into the smaller form factor that was the original XS-1 Sora which we’ve now dubbed the “RJX” or Regional X. This cockpit is therefore just as modular as the larger Airliner X and is packed with the same features, but the new RJX saves space and ultimately gives much more of the “cramped cockpit” feel which you experience in all aircraft that are not big airliners. We have however remembered to include enough space to be able to roll into the enclosure in an office chair.
This unique design serves to emulate countless mid-size commercial turbo-props, business jets, and regional airliners. As shown, the main instrument panel displays are 22″ 16:9 or 16:10 displays with the middle display being set vertically in portrait mode instead of the three larger 24″ displays set in landscape mode in the Airliner X. And because the RJX is smaller, it is also more well suited to use three 16-18″ displays for Garmin glass cockpit emulation such as the G1000, G3000, or others which have a large central navigation display between the pilots. As always, you can also choose to install any tactile hardware of your choice as desired. We also recommend 20-22″ displays for the main panel because, as desired, it allows you to display both analog “steam gauges” if desired, as well modern glass. Any smaller and you become limited to only Garmin G1000 type instrumentation.
Lastly, the upper visual display decks allow for 24″ monitors in place of the much larger and more costly 32″ displays found in the Airliner X. And finally, the overhead bin fits up to a 32″ display instead of the 42″ of the Airliner X. Likewise, a projector can still be used up front for the exterior visuals in place of displays, or, a hybrid system can be used with a single projector out front in conjunction with a single 24″ display set on each far side of the cockpit. The side views provide for the joy of in-flight cruise viewing as well for greater aid with pattern-work procedures and for practicing circle to land approaches. Finally, the central flight management display is sized smaller with a 16″ monitor specified for a virtual FMC / GPS screen (or hardware unit) followed with a 9″ wide pedestal for mounting cockpit radio hardware in place of the Airliner X’s full sized 17″ pedestal width.
All of these combined features provide a highly realistic environment, one that ultimately costs less to build because of reduced equipment requirements.
Dare we say, the XS-1 is the best of all worlds… just as originally intended in 2008.
