FLIGHT SIMULATION TRAINING GUIDES
SIMSAMURAI “U.G.T.A.F.S”
From 2008-2018 we offered a comprehensive training manual for flight simulator optimization, configuration, and networking. This well-respected manual is called the UGTAFS (Ultimate Guide to Advanced Flight Simulation). During that decade we sold a few thousand copies of this robust 400 page manual which was mainly focused for use with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, FSX, and some aspects of Lockheed’s Prepar3D. We still offer the final edition of the UGTAFS for a 60% discount price of $12, but you will currently find at least 1/4 to 1/3rd of its content to be dated where some aspects pertain to optimizing older computer technology of that era which mainly included mechanical hard drives (HDDs) that could be used in RAID 0 applications. Other useful information however pertains to many things like instrument panel design and virtual gauge building via C++ and XML coding (for FS2004, FSX, and Prepar3D) as well a deep dive into computer networking for flight simulation. So if you have interest in that data and any of those three older simulator software titles, this manual will prove very valuable to you.
In the coming year, we plan to release two revised UGTAFS versions for $25. One will be solely optimized for Lockheed’s Prepar3D v5/v6 (if nothing else than for posterity) and the second will be optimized for the 2020/2024 editions of Microsoft Flight Simulator. Stay tuned for these upcoming releases in summer 2026. Lastly, if you want to know when or to urge completion, just shoot us an email that says.. I want that manual! We appreciate all encouragement as producing extensively large documents like this takes a lot of time and effort.

SIMSAMURAI “IN-FLIGHT BIBLES”
Professional Training Begins with Professional Practice.
All the rules, all the tools… all the core pilot knowledge you need to know when practicing real world pilot procedures or while operating an aircraft in advanced online ATC training environments like VATSIM. The SimSamurai In-Flight Bible series consists of the most important rules, regulations, and real world procedures that you need to know. Fully updated to reflect 2025 FAA regulations.
The In-Flight Bible series are consolidated “nothing but the facts” data for pilots of any age or aptitude. They contain the core building blocks of knowledge that every pilot encounters on a daily basis while piloting an aircraft, making navigation decisions, and communicating with ATC. It should be no surprise that all of the included data is the core basis of subjects you study while preparing for practical tests and written exams. And while it cannot of course contain all necessary data for exams, meaning data that is included in both the FAR-AIM and the Pilots Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, it does however give you an amazing deep dive into the most daily “hands on” items that you use while in flight. And after a quick review, you will quickly find that these guides are so thorough and handy that you will want to use them all the time. In short, they are a “crib notes” and “aviation for dummies” guidebook. Most importantly, each page and section includes numerical page references to the aforementioned FAA manuals for further deep-dive reviews of each subject. Yes… that’s absolutely huge!
Along with the most commonly visited rules and regulations, these also include all of the most commonly used formulas, charts and diagrams that are important for pilots of every level of experience. So whether you are a simulator novice, training professional or seasoned veteran, these highly detailed handbooks are a must have item for your flight deck.
VOLUME 1 — The VFR-IFR In-Flight Bible ($14)
VOLUME 2 — The Single Engine In-Flight Bible ($14)
VOLUME 3 — The Multi-Engine In-Flight Bible ($14)
VOLUME 4 — The Sim Samurai Ultimate 88 IFR Guide ($10)
If you want to become a “Sky Samurai” who gets their thrills from slicing up cloud decks, you have to learn real world rules and procedures. This means knowing and following all those rules at the proper times. Flying can be easy. It’s all the book knowledge and regulations you have to know that is the hard part. And to be clear… there are A LOT of them. And when flying a simulator you quickly find that a lot of your time is wasted just doing simple and fun point “A to B VFR flights”. So why not increase your knowledge and skills in the process. While fun flights are ok, the reality is that had you been given the right tools early on, you could learn a lot more in a much a shorter amount of time. And as we know.. time is money. So during our training we paid careful attention to the most things used every single day. Aviation training is a mountain of knowledge overall, but yes, once you get into an aircraft you quickly find what things you need to know the most for each and every flight. You find those priorities matter. Therefore these unique products get you up to speed on the core facts of real world rules and procedures very quickly!
After a short review, You’ll quickly know what to do ..and when to do it!
If you are looking for just one volume of the three to help you get started we highly recommend the VFR-IFR In-Flight Bible. All of the information and concepts are explained clearly and to the point. Once you spend a week with it you’ll be flying like a pro.
If you want to enjoy flying in realistic multi-player flight simulation environments such as VATSIM or PilotEdge, you will be expected to follow these same rules just like you would in the real world. Needless to say, this is often a very big challenge for any low hour pilot and can also be quite challenging for experienced sim pilots who have never taken on the greater challenge of flying with realistic ATC. Therefore, having a professionally scripted reference handbook like the VFR-IFR In-Flight Bible is the key to creating realistic sim cockpit skills. It even has many charts and decent rate tables that are extremely helpful for flying large airliners. With these charts you’ll learn how to properly set up, plan, and execute a successful IFR approach in any aircraft, large or small.
You can buy each manual individually as shown or as a reduced cost 4 pack for $40.00.. a 20% discount.
Because they are sent as .PDFs, they are fully designed for printing or iPad viewing!
VOLUME 1 — The VFR – IFR In-Flight Bible ($14)
This new edition has been expanded to a robust and highly detailed 65 pages of the most used and most revisited rules, regulations, formulas, and charts that both a VFR and IFR pilot will use each time they plan a flight and actually fly. After a read through you will finally understand how the VFR and IFR environments works together in flight. It is bar-none the most comprehensive piloting handbook you will ever find.
Each page is designed as a 5.25″ x 8.5″ card for printing and placing in a protective sleeved Flight Crew Checklist Binder and we have also maximized the file so that it is full scale when viewed on an iPad.
Whether you are an avid flight sim hobbyist, a real pilot in training, or are perhaps even a CFI or MEII who would like to have succinct and to the point “crib notes” style data from which to teach the core principles of aviation, we guarantee the In-Flight Bible series is exactly what you are looking for. It really is that good.
Please view the comprehensive data list at the bottom of this page for what’s included in just the VFR-IFR Bible alone.
VOLUME 2 — The Single Engine In-Flight Bible ($14)
The Single-Engine Bible contains specific Cessna 172/182 checklists and procedures as well as all key emergency procedures that are used in every single engine aircraft such as Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, etc. It also contains many other more generalized procedures and maneuvers that are applicable to all single engine aircraft such as all procedural checklists for all flight training maneuvers which are required to pass your in-flight pilot practical exams.
Most importantly, it also contains concise checklists for all single-engine private pilot practical exam maneuvers as well the single engine commercial pilot maneuvers which therefore apply to all single engines. Having all this data in one handbook makes it a perfect flight training guide. Just like the VFR-IFR volume, this second volume is a must have for hands on practical knowledge and procedural airwork.
VOLUME 3 — The Samurai Multi-Engine Bible ($14)
If you are ready to make the big step into flying twin engine aircraft we have you covered. The “ME Bible” is once again a concise volume of all standard checklists, procedures, regulations, and practical maneuvers necessary for passing a multi-engine add-on checkride as well as the commercial multi checkride. As multi-engine instrument rated pilots, we made sure to include every ounce of core data you need to know in order to pilot a light piston twin aircraft. There’s nothing better! Our goal is to make sure your engine out emergency training in a twin gets you home and not just to the scene of the crash!
VOLUME 4 — Sim Samurai’s Ultimate 88 IFR Study Guide ($10)
During real world flight training we quickly found out, as most pilots do, that the coveted instrument rating is the most challenging and comprehensive rating of all pilot ratings. There are many different subjects, procedures, and equations, all of which must be learned, memorized and repeatedly practiced in flight. It’s a mountain to climb and there is a lot to absorb.
During this learning process we quickly found that there was no comprehensive study guide which summarizes the big picture and all the key concepts and procedures a pilot must know in order to pass both the IFR written exam as well as the IFR practical in-flight exam. Sure, there are volumes of books with thousands of pages, but there are actually none which present all the knowledge in a stripped down “core crib notes” style of format that will allow you to see the big picture on the up front. By doing this, it allows you to further examine and study each core part as needed or desired. Therefore this unique 88 paged guidebook is a highly detailed and logically ordered “crib notes” approach to the entire scope of the instrument rating. What you once thought to be a very complex subject is broken down into very easily digestible formats.
Just like our original UGTAFS it includes the most important details and each page is also filled with various website hot links which allow you to immediately explore a subject much deeper. After just one reading you will know exactly what the entire IFR rating is all about and it will immediately help prepare you for both the IFR written and oral exam.
Yes,..it’s that good.
