The Airliner X is the pinnacle of affordable flight simulation for airliner cockpits. We’ve taken everything learned from our previous original designs and incorporated it to reveal all we ever hoped for with a large scale flight simulator cockpit, one that is affordable and easy to build for the DIY user.   If you are ready to experience flight simulation on a grand scale, the Airliner X fully delivers.

Within the concept range of our original XS1 / AX1 line that started circa 2008 we always wanted to offer an airline sized cockpit which not only gives the proper realistic feel and proportions, but one that is also very affordable to build, i.e; less than $1,000 in all base materials. We also wanted to offer something that can be built DIY by anyone using basic hand tools such as a circular saw and drill or one that can instead be quickly cut on CNC if the end user has the experience and access to such equipment. Lastly, we wanted to use all materials efficiently for reduced costs of building while also providing for very solid, stable construction.  With the Airliner X we completed all these goals and more.

The core dimensions for the Airliner X is extremely accurate to that of the famed Boeing 737.  This includes the instrument panel size, window stanchion size and angle, front window cutout sizes, as well the overhead canopy size and angle which now includes room to fit both the main overhead from a real 737 as well as the secondary rear overhead panel too if desired, or the overhead space fits a 42” touchscreen as shown in images for virtual panel operation. While not a true 737 in design, it is very close in size and proportion to most every Boeing and Airbus cockpit and therefore highly accurate.    

The main instrument panel area width is slightly over-sized to accommodate real tactile panels from any number of panel manufacturers and not just the Boeing 737 or A320 in particular. As shown you can also option to use any number of various 2D virtual panels with three 24” touchscreens.  Regardless, whether it’s Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, Tupelov or Sukhoi, you can get any large airliner calling for taxi to the active.  The Airliner X can easily do it all.

The upper interior decks of the Airliner X accommodate an option of using up to six 27″ or 32″ 16:9 LCDs for life-like exterior panoramic visuals, or a projection system can be used out front instead. Secondly, any hybrid cross of the two can be used such as a projection out front with internally mounted LCD displays on the left and right shoulders of the pilot. This hybrid method can therefore be most useful with airport environment traffic pattern-work and for practicing circle to land approaches.  This unique and space saving hybrid style also allows three visuals (left, center, and right) to be displayed via a single video card (to save costs) and is meant to provide each pilot (pilot / copilot) with the left or right downwind views while flying in the traffic pattern at any airport. 

Lastly, the Airliner X can fit in any 8ft x 8ft room if ever needed with enough room to spare for wall baseboards. The height is under 7 feet (at rear of canopy) which can allow for an optional 16” floor platform for installing items like floor recessed pedestal yokes.  Therefore this addition can still allow the Airliner X to be less than 8ft tall.  No other full scale 737 simulator offers this type of space consideration – Literally none – However, any projection system which uses two or more projectors will typically require a room footprint of 12′ft x 12′ft  at very minimum, but if using just a single projector out front you can use two (or even four) LCDs inside the interior side walls to still obtain 180 degrees of visuals.  Therefore the unique hybrid design of the Airliner X truly offers the greatest amount of flexibility for visuals with many space constraints in mind.

  • Sub panel (under main) spec’d at 4.5″ to install the custom SimSamurai horizontal yokes design if desired or can fit any clamp on style Saitek yokes, Honeycomb, Thrustmaster, etc.
  • Has ability for up to 12 displays (4-6 for flight instruments and up to six 27″ or 32″ LCDs for exterior panoramic views (or you can also use smaller LCDs if desired too).
  • Front Main View is designed for use with three LCDs or 1 to 3 overhead projectors. 
  • All display screens and equipment options are discussed in DIY builder manual as well in the SimSamurai UGTAFS. Main Panel can use 3 LCDs – 22″ or 24″, as well one 20″ for lower FMC / CDU / GPS / RADIOS, etc, and one display for the overhead canopy panel up to a 42″ touchscreen as seen in images.  
  • A 6th 4:3 style LCD can also be used on the pedestal for virtual avionics as shown in photos.
  • Note: If using 6 displays for visuals and 6 for instruments, a minimum of four networked PC’s is typically required (3 for exterior visuals (2 screens per pc), and 1 for 2D instrumentation)
